Dorothy King – 100
Dorothy King – 100!
Dorothy King is a member of our Thursday Church. On 20 July 2019 she celebrated her 100th birthday!
Dorothy lives in her own home and comes to church without any stick or walker. Her mind is sharp and her faith is strong.
I asked Dorothy about her faith and what God has taught her over the last century.
When and how did you start following Jesus?
I was 15 and became a Christian during confirmation classes at St Clements Church at Marrickville.
What have been the main joys of being a Christian over the last 85 years?
As I’ve grown older, the Lord has given me strength every day. Before that – I’ve constantly seen his work in my life. I always knew the Lord was with me. He’s never let me down, and he’s brought me through all these years. I’ve had a wonderful life.
What have been the main challenges you’ve had to face?
After my husband died in 1989 I was on my own and living in North Queensland. That was sad. After 3 years I moved to be close to my sister in Sydney. I was never able to have children – but that was a blessing from the Lord. My husband and I were married for 33 years, and we had a wonderful relationship.
What is your prayer for younger generations?
I want them to see the wonderful works the Lord has done. I don’t think there is anything more wonderful than taking communion. It touches me very much. If only they would take it to their hearts, and know why the Lord gave his life for them.
What is your favourite Bible verse?
John 3:16 for sure. And also Psalm 46:10 – “Be still and know that I am God”.
We praise God for Dorothy, for the 100 years of life God has given her and for the wisdom she has to share with the rest of us.
