Annual General Meeting

Our church is a family of Christian brothers and sisters who long to see ourselves and others live all for Christ Jesus. We’re also an ‘Anglican Church’ – an organisation with established structures for administration and governance.  Like other organisations, our Annual General Meeting (AGM) is an important event. Here are 5 things we do at the AGM…

  1. We pray at various points through the evening.
  2. We receive brief reports from me and our wardens.
  1. Elect & Appoint. Elections are held for key positions in our church life…
    • Wardens manage the ongoing operations of the church, particularly our property and finances.
    • Parish Councillors (along with Wardens) are responsible for the ‘governance’ of our church. The Council works with me to set & review our ministry direction, set budgets, set policy, consult on major decisions and monitor compliance with various legal & moral requirements.
    • ‘Nominators’ have the job of appointing a new senior minister (only if required!).
    • Synod representatives are elected every three years to participate in the annual diocesan synod.
    • Auditor
  1. Recommend. Church members can ask questions and/or make recommendations for the Parish Council to consider.
  1. The meeting is an opportunity for everyone to share in the life of our church. We aim to finish the formalities at around 9:15pm, then enjoy supper together.

Each year I leave the AGM encouraged and thankful to God for the unity, love, passion and faithfulness of those who attend. Please join me in giving thanks for those who serve in ‘official’ roles, and pray that our church organisation would continue to facilitate God’s gospel work in and through us.
