Prayer Update | September 2018

September tiki tiki ti!!

Hello dear friends!!
This month we have celebrated the national day of Chile on September 18th. Most Chileans when they say the word September follow it with 'tiki tiki ti'. We don't really know what this means, it seems to be a bit of a festive and fun way to talk about the national time of celebration.
In this update we want to share a bit more about the country where we are serving and give you a bit of a taste of what Chilean culture is like.
We've shared 2 videos and some photos to show you some of the ways Chileans celebrate their national identity.

Thanks so much for praying.
Please keep praying for a Chile that knows Jesus!

Here's the official video of the celebration at the kids' school. See if you can find Theo and Eliot dancing. That's Eliot in the purple dress. Each class had a different dance from different parts of the country.
Note: It's quite a long video that gives a window into our fantastic school.

Some photos of the kids at school and at church for the celebration.

Here's a short video of Stef and I trying to dance with our church friends.

Prayer Points

  • Pray for ongoing insight into Chilean culture and diligence in language learning.
  • Pray for ongoing wisdom in life in general. How to best spend our time and efforts for the glory of God and the good of his people.
  • Pray for ongoing ability in parenting our children well in a foreign culture. (8 months in the kids are tired and we need God's help to shepherd them well)
  • Give thanks for a great pastoral visit with Chris and Jeni Mitchell from CMS.

5 Fun Facts about Chile

1: Chile is the longest country in the world from north to south at 4,620 km long and extends across 38 degrees of latitude.
2: Chilean husbands and wives have different last names because women keep their maiden names. If they have the same last names, they are often considered brother and sister [interesting for us, Chris Overhall & Stef Overhall!!]
3: The Chilean Andes have more than 2,000 active volcanoes. Chile’s highest point is Nevada Ojos del Salado at 22,572 feet (6,880 m). It is the world’s highest volcano.
4: Chile’s Atacama Desert is the driest desert in the world.
5: The cueca, which resembles the mating ritual of hens and roosters, is the national dance of Chile.

Until next time,

love in Christ,

Chris, Stef, El, Theo & Nate
