In April this year we committed to proceed with our Building for Ministry project. We want to provide for the ministry of the gospel in and through our church for decades to come. Here is an update on our progress.
Development Application (DA)
Our DA was lodged with the Sutherland Council on 2nd March, but we are still waiting for their decision. Once our DA is approved, we will begin to invest further in the detailed preparations still required. In the second half of this year 2018 we plan to:
- Fine-tune details of our design (eg. kitchen layout and equipment).
- Engage various technical/engineering consultants (eg. drainage, electrical, structural).
- Obtain a Construction Certificate.
- Produce the detailed plans builders will need in the tender process.
While waiting for the DA to be approved, we have been developing a governance framework. This is a plan setting out roles and responsibilities for the various aspects of the project. Central to this is a proposed Project Control Group who will take responsibility to deliver the completed project in scope, on time and on budget. A copy of the governance framework is available here.
We are however still short of the total amount pledged to be given up front ($607,000) and in an ongoing way through 2018 ($285,000). If you haven’t yet got around to it, your prompt action would be appreciated. If you would like a reminder of what you pledged, Gordon Rees can provide you with the details. (See here for details on how to give.)
We have also been working on new chairs to replace our worn pews. This is part of the Building for Ministry Project, but is not dependent on our DA. We have identified a short list of potential chairs which we hope to soon present to you for feedback, before we make the final decision.
Please continue to pray for God’s provision in every way:
- For blessing on our ongoing ministries for which we are building.
- For the approval of our DA.
- For further generous giving.
- For wisdom in planning and decision making.
