The Gong Men’s Day is known for its food.
Physically, this involves coffee, donuts and a sit-down roast lunch (even with dessert). But it is the spiritual food that nourishes our faith in Jesus that makes it a great day for the men of our church.
In the midst of busy lives, and juggling many responsibilities, it is incredibly valuable to spend a morning with other men hearing from the word of God, talking about how it applies to our lives and praying together.
Tim gave 3 talks from Hebrews 11 & 12 calling on us to stand, focus and run.
The first talk was from Hebrews 11:23-28, about how Moses chose to stand with the people of God and be mistreated, rather than hold onto the treasures of Egypt. He was able to do this because he was given eyes of faith to see his God, his people and his ultimate home.
The next two talks were taken from Hebrews 12:1-3. The Christian life is a race to be run. The race has been marked out for us by Jesus. It takes perseverance, so we need to throw off everything that slows us down and the sin that can trip us up. It requires perseverance, but we have a cheer squad and we run as pack to spur each other onwards. We also heard that the key to running is to focus on Jesus.
With time for questions, and interviews with men running the race, all together it was a great day.
