There are billions of people around the world, who have never heard about Jesus.
Our church is deeply committed to doing what we can to see the great news of Jesus go out to all nations. As part of our mission to ‘multiply disciple makers’ we send people to proclaim Christ and to train local leaders in overseas churches.
We currently partner with 4 overseas mission families – the Sholls in Mexico (who will visit us at the end of June), the Overhalls in Chile, the Hadfields in Hong Kong and our recent visitors – Mal and Leanne.
Each of these families is supported through the Church Missionary Society (CMS).
As we heard last week from 3 John 6-8, supporting missionaries is an important part of being a faithful follower of Jesus, and gives us the privilege of being “co-workers in the truth”. No one else except us will support overseas gospel work.
“You will do well to send them on their journey in a manner worthy of God, 7 since they set out for the sake of the Name, accepting nothing from pagans. 8 Therefore, we ought to support such men so that we can be co-workers with the truth.”
Are you currently actively supporting our missionaries through CMS?
Although our support is not just financial, CMS does need money to keep our missionaries serving Jesus overseas (and about 130 others!).
In June each year CMS promotes its “Lasting Hope Appeal” to raise funds for overseas mission. Over the last 2 years God has raised up 37 new missionaries – which means that CMS needs an increase in collections of 12%.
If you would like to make a one off contribution, or become a regular giver, there will be giving forms in the church foyer over the next month. Or visit the CMS website for information or to set up your giving.
